Kassel is a handsome city in the centre of Germany. It is the capital of the North Hesse region with a population of some 200,000 and was home to the famous Grimm Brothers who wrote so many of our best-known fairy tales. Renting a holiday apartment in Kassel from 9flats will make sure you are a character in this fairy tale city, rather than just a tourist. The experience is like couchsurfing in Kassel but with the added benefits of the comfort and privacy of staying in your own room or entire apartment. You will live among the locals rather than other tourists and get to know the real city. From your holiday accommodation in Kassel you can explore the city’s beautiful parks, including Karlsaue and the famous Bergpark, and visit the excellent museums for which the city is justly proud.
Sightseeing from your holiday apartment in Kassel
A comfortable holiday apartment in Kassel provides an ideal base from which to explore this historic city. Kassel dates from around 900AD and was originally a fortified bridge across the river Fulda. The city is dominated by the Bergpark which rises 1,000ft and is topped by the huge Herkules statue. If you feel energetic you can climb to the top and on the way visit the palaces of Lowenburg and Schloss Wilhelmshöhe with its three museums. Sadly most of the Old Town of Kassel was destroyed in the Second World War, but you can still see some remaining old buildings and remnants of the ancient city walls. For a spot of relaxation you can take a river tour in the afternoon and combine it with a spot of cycling at one of the many stops as bicycles are carried for free.
Deciding on holiday accommodation in Kassel
Kassel is not an overly developed tourist city and you will find many residential neighbourhoods to choose from. A holiday apartment in Wahlershausen for example will see you staying just to the west of the city centre. It is a comfortable and quiet residential area with plenty of nearby woods and parkland and easy access to the city centre. A little further from the city centre and on the northern city boundary, a holiday apartment in Philippinenhof Warteberg is another well-appointed residential base from which to explore Kassel.
To Germany and beyond
Kassel is extremely central and you can easily reach other fascinating German cities. Some 70 miles to the north for example renting a holiday apartment in Hanover will let you explore this interesting capital of Lower Saxony. Leaving Germany, a holiday apartment in Amsterdam is only a short distance to the west. Here you will find a historic city centre of ringed canals, some excellent art museums and an exciting nightlife. At 9flats we have apartments and rooms in great locations in fantastic cities all over the world so book with us for a more authentic travel experience at less than the price of a standard tourist hotel room.
