The 8.700 km² large island consists mostly of high mountains and gives at first sight the impression of a rugged and cool beauty. Walking through the city you will see historic buildings such as the Maison Bonaparte, the Town Hall, the impressive churches and the Palatine Chapel, built by Napoleon III in 1857 and called Chapelle Imperiale.
